The business is founded on personal relationships between our clients and private bankers who are the focal point for all our products and services. SG Hambros has offices in Bahamas, Gibraltar, Guernsey, Jersey, London and the UK regions.
Responsible for ensuring maintenance and consistency of standards, policy and documentation to enable each of the SG Hambros entities comply with all the relevant regulatory requirements in each jurisdiction as well as with SG Group policy. Also responsible for managing UK compliance function and ensuring that the UK businesses are compliant with regulatory regime and that the UK banking business is compliant with UK Banking Code of Conduct
To ensure that the SG Hambros Audit Committee is updated on all significant matters relating to compliance and AML To ensure that OpeRA reports for the group are submitted on a timely basis To ensure that SGH policy on compliance and AML is applied consistently across the group To collate information requested by PRIV for SG Hambros companies
SG Hambros UK Responsibilities
To monitor the UK businesses of SG Hambros and ensure that they are conducted in accordance with all relevant legislation, rules, regulations and codes of conduct Keep up-to-date with current and proposed legislation and other regulations affecting SG Hambros' UK business Take responsibility for any regulatory returns as required by the FSA and the Banking Code Standards Board Develop and strengthen relationships with the business heads, the relationship managers, operational managers and staff to promote best practice and ensure a good understanding of compliance/AML requirements To advise line management on all applicable regulatory obligations, including advising on business and regulatory developments, and on the procedures required to ensure compliance with these obligations
To provide training to line management and staff as required to ensure that each individual is made aware of his or her regulatory obligations and of the procedures needed to ensure compliance.
To maintain open and constructive relationships with the relevant regulatory bodies by providing effective liaison between the firms and their regulators and co-ordinate any visits/ investigations or routine enquiries To design and implement comprehensive monitoring programmes, covering all aspects of the business, to check that the business continues to be conducted in compliance with all relevant regulatory obligations, to report to line and functional management all significant exceptions, and to check that actual or potential breaches are remedied promptly
To assist line management to ensure that the firms establish and maintain at all times effective systems of internal controls in order to manage and minimise the risk of losses to clients or to the business from errors, irregularities or fraud. Also to monitor all aspects of the business to identify actual or potential weaknesses of internal controls, so that prompt remedial action may be taken by line management To liaise with Marketing and Business Development/SAI in relation to any proposed new business initiatives that might have compliance implications To manage a small team of three Compliance staff
Critical Success Factors
Maintaining and improving SG Hambros status with the FSA and ensuring at all times the business is compliant with regulations in local jurisdictions Ensuring that mindset and procedures at SG Hambros group are such that the risk of money laundering and fraud within the group are minimised
CANDIDATE PROFILE
Education & Past Experience
Educated to degree level
Significant experience in compliance and anti-money laundering roles Have worked with other regulatory jurisdictions Record of having built good strong relationships with regulators Experience of private banking sector and of working with trust companies Experience of managing a team
Technical Skills
Strong knowledge and understanding of the UK regulatory regime and the UK Banking Code.
Strong knowledge and understanding of AML requirements Fluent written and spoken English. Other language skills are not required in this position, but French is useful An awareness of the regulatory regimes in Channel Islands, Bahamas, Gibraltar and Canada would be useful - highly desirable.
